Stream Restoration

On May 6, Resource Institute visited McGalliard Falls Park and Valdese Lakeside Park. They are a stream/river restoration firm (spoke at a Catawba River Wildlife Coalition meeting) and want to help restore McGalliard Creek and the VLP kayak launch area. They are knowledgeable about various grant monies and will be able to match those with current grants and community donations. Getting them involved may slow down park construction – but it will make it better. Continue reading Stream Restoration

Monthly Walks

Our first Valdese Lakeside Park Group Walk on the Greenway of this year kicked off on Super Bowl Sunday. Thirty people enjoyed the 2.6 mile walk along Lake Rhodhiss and McGalliard Creek enhanced by the unseasonably warm weather. Adventurers also tried out the new connector trail to Meditation Point. The FVR Trail Blazers have been working on this trail since December and hikers gave it a thumbs up – even though there is a little more work to be done before completion. Join the group walk next month – Sunday, March 1 at 2:00 pm.
