Summary: In partnership with Valdese Recreation Department, Valdese native, David Brinkley is inviting you to help him in his quest to honor long time coach – Wayne Owens. Wayne Owens was a tremendous friend, leader and champion for Valdese athletes and the recreation department throughout the late 1950’s to early 1970’s. In tribute to Mr. Owens, David Brinkley has started a project to renovate the basketball court at the Valdese Recreation Department in Owen’s honor. The renovation is estimated to cost $350,000. From flooring to HVAC, the court is in dire need of renovation. A recognition board will celebrate all contributors alongside Coach Owens. Coach Owens is known as a Valdese basketball legend. His contribution to students in the community serves as a fond memory for many still today. With your help, Coach Owens’ memory will be celebrated and never forgotten.

Friends of the Valdese Rec, Inc, is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit corporation.
For donations written to Town of Valdese, since the funds will be used for a public purpose there should not be issue with it being tax deductible according to IRS pub 526. However, please consult with your accountant.
